I'm proud of a number of initiatives undertaken in the past four years.
Healthcare
While not specific to local government, I figure health care is in everybody's lane.
Council endorsed a resolution I brought forward calling on the province to address the doctor's crisis as it would any state of emergency. The resolution went to the Union of British Columbia Municipalities where it was unanimously endorsed by the province's mayors, councillors and regional district directors last month.
The Rail Corridor
Vancouver Island already has in place the route that could help alleviate traffic holdups on the Malahat and congestion from the Westshore.
In five months we risk losing the rail corridor that has linked and served communities up and down the island for 135 years.
Council endorsed a resolution I brought forward calling on senior governments to preserving the corridor. The resolution was unanimously endorsed by UBCM this September.
Climate Action
Council endorsed a motion I brought forward in 2019 making it one of the first in the region to declare a climate emergency.
Reducing GHGs in buildings and on our streets has been a priority throughout the past term and as liaison to the View Royal Climate Coalition I have brought motions and ideas for an increasingly energy efficient community.
Public Safety
View Royal Fire and Rescue is a pride of our town and our men and women first responders didn't once let us down despite the rigors of the pandemic.
As a resident, council member, and chair of council's Protective Services Committee I'm proud of a department that responded to every single call - despite enhanced risks - and of a council that supported them.
Council approved a much needed new firetruck that will arrive in 2024 and approved the hiring of an additional RCMP officer.
